Seven Ingredients for Success...
1. Commitment- Make a decision to find a way to plan and carry out every aspiration in you.
Give it 100% YOU!
2. Education- Find out all you can about all it is you need to know.
If you’re not sure, ask someone who might. In other words, DO your research!
3. Courage- Do NOT be afraid of change. Do NOT be afraid to put “feet” on your dreams.
How will you know unless you try?
4. Determination- Never give up! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t.
Envision yourself in a successful business doing something you love doing. Stay positive!
5. Perseverance- Pace yourself at a steady rate with a realistic and easy to follow business plan, embrace obstacles as if they were stepping stones, and on days you don’t feel like working, do something creative. But DO something! Follow that dream!
6. Faith- If you believe in what you do, and have a great product to offer, chances are others will too. Believe in yourself! I personally believe that God gives us our talents to direct us not only in our everyday lives, but in our careers as well.
7. Patience- Having the ability to WAIT on the growth of your business without becoming discouraged. After developing a plan and working it, allow it time. Occasionally assess your accomplishments and see if you have given ample time for profit. Some companies take up to five years for real profit, others in a much shorter time frame.

If you have exhausted every measure there is for a well defined and strategically carried out business plan, and if you have done all your homework and then some, there is no reason for lack of success. I believe every person has the potential for success.

It's time to wake up and see the signs! I'm studying Gerontology and it amazes me that the "baby boomers" will be the biggest group in nursing homes, and yet more than likely the most unhealthy when they get there. I've been doing research all weekend on suicide and depression among the elderly, and the statistics are overwhelming! The ratio of elderly to young will be alarming in years to come! And now we are learning there may not be enough for social securty benefits by 2030? Wake up people! This is not to put a damper on your day, it's to help make you aware of the inevitable changes and to do something about it while we can!

Saturday Satire...

I couldn't sleep this morning so I got up and drank coffee, took the dog out, and enjoyed the cool brisk air and beautiful sunshine. All of a sudden three deer popped out. They didn't notice me or my dog, who was doing her Saturday morning usual business. I called Bindi (my little dachshund) in, with a promise of a milk bone, and still, we went unnoticed by the trio. Something must have spooked them, as they didn't move hardly at all. I thought maybe it was a buck about to show himself. After all, it is their mating season I'm told? Not sure about all the terminology and rules of hunting. My son and husband are the serious hunters. As I began to take photos of these majestic and mysterious animals, I thought to myself how ironic it was, that here I am in the front taking pictures, and my hubby is waiting patiently in the back for a big buck. He hasn't a clue that I've been watching these deer this morning! These three are to his back! I can't wait for him to come in and hear about all the deer I've "shot"!

Here's an easy Chicken Soup Recipe you will love,

This blog post is a "re-post" from 2009...Enjoy!

1 Can of Cream of Chicken

1 Can of Cream of Celery
1 Can of Cream of Mushroom
2 Cans of Veg-All
About 2 - 3 Cups Cooked Chopped Chicken (canned will do)
At least 2- 3 Cups Chicken Broth (either canned, or the water you boil the chicken in)
1 Small Block of Velveeta cheese (16oz)
Salt and Pepper to taste

I cooked my chicken the night before so it made preparing this recipe on a Sunday afternoon very quick and easy! I had some boneless chicken tenders in the freezer I boiled, cooled, then covered and stuck in the fridge for the next day.
Add the soups and chicken first and then allow to heat though and through on medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching. Lower the heat, add the veggies and the block of cheese. When the cheese melts, it's done! Add water or milk to thin if needed, and salt and pepper to taste.
So there yo have it, an EASY creamy chicken vegetable soup! And mmmmm good I promise!
This recipe is easily doubled and cooks well in a crock pot. Add cooked rice or noodles for variety.
The recipe I prepared fed 4 easily, with enough left over the next day for my daughter to take a bowl in her lunch, send a bowl home with my mother in law, and eat the next day myself!

Don't ask about the calories, sodium, fat, etc...content in each serving, 'cause I have no idea, but I DO choose NO SODIUM added, in any canned products I purchase!

This devastation hit too near home! I'm about 15 minutes away from where the damage begins. If this storm would have taken a mile turn to the north, my daughter could have been directly in the path. All that separates her from the devastated town, is a mountain. So many people I know personally have been affected. Trussville and Centerpoint is where go often and do lots of business. Now homes, communities and businesses have been destroyed. Keep us in your prayers, please!

Dear Bloggers and Bloggettes,
I am so sorry I haven't posted in nearly 20 days. The first two weeks into the new year I was sick. No fireworks for me, just bed for the following 5 days, and another several to regain my strength. However, the doctor assured me this wasn't flu. Thinking I should get a flu shot now! Then, it just became easier and easier to forget about the computer all together. I started school last week, been reading lots, company visiting, end of the year tax info gathering, and going often with my cheerdaughter in the last few days. Excuses it sounds like, but it's an explanation. Honest. But today, with coffee by my side, and a new attitude, I have returned!!! I am so ready to get back to normal. Then again, maybe I need a new normal! I feel with the beginning of school, I have started a new chapter in my life! Now I just need some creativity to go along with it. I am ready to sew! So good to be back y'all!

Today I want to share the Fingerprints of God...it's in little things such as reminders...

My reminder last week was The Titanic. We took a trip to Gatlinburg for a cheerleading competition my youngest daughter was in. On the way, another daughter and I talked via cell phone, and she told me that my grandson had informed her that's where the Titanic was. We both laughed, because we knew the Titanic wasn't! He is only 6 but has become obsessed with learning all he can about the history of the Titanic, and has watched the movie numerous times! He walked by the phone once while we were talking and said there was an iceberg up there too! We both thought he was trying to say "Gatlinburg"...and still we laughed it off. Well, low and behold folks, when we arrived in Pigeon Forge, there it was!!! The Titanic, complete with an iceberg!!! I guess the joke was on us! Maybe God was trying to let me know that kids sometimes know more than we give them credit for, and maybe we should really listen instead of just hearing! I took as many photos as I could through my cell phone and sent them immediately. My daughter said Colby was ecstatic and jumped up and down shouting, "I told you!"...Yes, we will learn to listen...Thank you Lord for reminding us!

If I had a thought this Thursday...

If I had a thought this beautiful and warm December morning...it would be about the Christmas Spirit. As I was praying last night, I asked the Lord to help me get in the Christmas Spirit. I know the Holidays aren't just about shopping, giving, receiving, parties, parades, Santa, Christmas trees, candy, etc...but, family, wonderful times making Holiday memories, the celebration of the Birth of Christ... I haven't been too excited about the Holidays so far, and yesterday as I was shopping, I realized how stressful and tired it was making me, and I found myself wishing this season was already over. I don't even have my tree up yet!
This morning I grouped small bunches of mistletoe from where my husband had cut some out of the trees, tied ribbons around it, hung it in the living room, took photos of a Christmas mug for my "Sunday Inspiration" posts, placed some Holiday plates on a table, all as I began thinking about the Holidays and when I was a little girl at Christmas time. I thought about all the sweet memories of my grandparents, opening gifts, eating homemade oatmeal cookies, singing "Away in a Manger" in kindergarten and it making me cry (yes my memories went back that far this morning!)...It's memories of Christmas' past that make me smile and warm my heart....I then realized I WAS in the Christmas Spirit! I had not been thinking about what Christmas is all about! It's about a birth! A HOLY event that took place years ago so that you and I could have a better life with a happy eternal ending! I began thinking about how selfish I'd been, and realized God gave me what I prayed for this morning. Thank you LORD, for the wonderful memories I have at Christmas time, and thank you for the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ! I'm ready to finish my shopping now...I have a new attitude...I'm in the Christmas Spirit...

Scallops...not potatoes...an embellisment!

Last year around this time I posted a "Tuesday's Sewing Tip" on creating embellisments with machine embroidered scallops. Today I'm re-sharing! Hoping you all are having a creative Holiday Season!

Sharing one of my favorite embellishments - creating a machine embroidered scalloped edging. Although not always completed quickly, it is worth spending a little more time on to make your item SEW unique! (Especially if your sewing machine has this feature-You should definitley be utilizing it!)
First, decide where you want the scallops: A collar, sleeve, hem? If you sew home decor, you could even add this scalloped trim to pillows and shams.

For sleeves and collars, I cut out, stabilize, and then machine embroider scalloped design to pattern piece where desired. (IMPORTANT: Always make sure you sew a test run before beginning!) Use a close stitch setting, making sure the bobbin and needle tension is correct.
When design is complete, add Fraycheck just outside the scallops, but close enough that the liquid soaks up against the stitches. If you put Fraycheck on top of stitching, it could dull the thread shine.

Let Fraycheck dry then trim with very sharp, precise embroidery scissors, just against the stitched scallops, being very careful not to cut any threads.

There you have it! Your own unique design!

QUICK TIP: Sometimes I create yards at a time of decorative edging. When I need a special trim for an outfit, I usually have it on hand without having to run out and purchase!

Sewing Closet Debut!!!

A few blogs ago I mentioned constructing a temporary/permanent sewing closet. I have no where to sew that I can call my own since moving to our new home. The sewing studio I had plans for will be in the basement, and we've decided to put off completing it for a while. Little did I know how bad I would miss a space of my own! After all, I've had a sewing room for about 35 years!!! My first sewing room was a corner in my bedroom when I was a senior in highschool, after I'd received a sewing machine and cabinet for Christmas that year! And the rest is history!

Recently I became a little down and out and was loosing my "creative mojo". I knew I had to do something. I googled sewing rooms in a closet and I came upon the blog Gwenny Penny. She graciously shared her link to her own constructed sewing closet! I knew this was what I had to do! Thanks for sharing! You've have inspired me! Today was the day of completion and I just had to show you!

Ta Da!!!

And after a day's work, I can store the serger in the closet, and roll the table back in it's place! Clever, huh?
I am SEW excited I can hardly contain myself! I've even moved my embroidery machine in the same room too! Oh, did I tell you, this is in the office? I will post pics later how I combined the three areas in the office! It's still a little unorganized, but I'm getting there, and that's half the fun!

Maybe it's the change in the weather, maybe it's because Christmas is around the corner, or maybe just maybe it's the fact that I've been working on my new temporary/permanent sewing space! Whatever it is, it's feeling like it's some "creative mojo", I'll tell ya that! What gets people in such "funks"? I don't ever remember it being this bad! I'm not complaining, I was willing to live out my life doing something else!
So...I need to finish what I've started...and by golly that's what I'm gonna do!

OK, I can't help it! I guess I'm a "Twilight" geek now! However, it started out accidentally...my daughter wanted me to watch a "Twilight" movie. I could have cared less about all the hype! But then after the first movie, I wanted to watch another, and then another...and the rest is history!
I watched "Breaking Dawn"'s midnight premier last night, or should I say this morning??? I love the movies, but most importantly, it gives my youngest daughter and I some extra common ground and makes for more mother-daughter quality time! She's trying to talk me into reading the books...I think I will...

I thank ALL who have fought for our freedom! This day makes me want to salute every Veteran I see! I watched a local TV program last night include a Veteran's Day program in the lighting of a shopping mall's Christmas tree. I was touched when I saw the emotion on the Veteran's faces as they were being honored! Some of the oldest still cried when reminded of their tour of duty! Can you imagine? We need to stop every once in a while and think about what it cost for freedom!

My cousin at the age of 18 posing for this photo before he went off to active duty in Viet Nam...he was later shot down from a helicopter...he lived, but it broke my grandmother's heart....I shutter to think if this had been my son...My son was still chasing girls, driving his pickup, and living at home when he was this age.

New Sewing Room...Almost

Most of you know we have just moved into our new home. The sewing studio downstairs was supposed to have been completed by now. It's not. I took off sewing for the summer, and I still haven't started back. I have begun feeling like I was loosing creativity, mojo, etc...I've even decided to go back to school thinking I need to start a new chapter in my life...wait, that's for another blog post later! LOL! However, I've been very frustrated to say the least because I do not have a place to call my sewing room! And I've always had a sewing room! OK, so I need some cheese with this whine??? Yesterday I decided to make a small area in a large closet in my office to put my sewing machine in. I googled how to make a sewing closet and came upon a wonderful blog with a wonderful idea for a sewing closet! I am so excited, and my husband is on board with this idea as well!

Last Football Game for My Senior!

It was sad this past Friday night as I watched my daughter cry after her last football game. It was sad for all the athletes who have been cheering or playing football together since grammar school, as this was their last varsity football game to ever participate in. They don't have a clue what lies ahead of them... I remember those days, and remember well my last game. When the whistle blew for the last time, the senior girls on my cheerleading squad burst into tears. I didn't understand it then, I didn't even cry. It took a few months for me...mostly after graduation to realize this social aspect of my life had ended. These kids don't see it, but we parents do. They're about to realize a lot of "lasts" over the next few months. My heart goes out to my little cheerdaughter. I hope I can make this transition for her easy. Then again, I don't think it's ever easy...

Has it really been a whole week since I've posted? I apologize. This was supposed to have been "Wordless Wednesday", but as you see, this post has words! Last week was homecoming week for my Senior Cheerleader, and boy was it a busy one! Maybe I'll post about it tomorrow! But, heads up, this is SENIOR week and last football game of the season...AND it's gonna be another busy one! I'm hosting the fourth cheer-dinner at my house Friday and this time Moms are invited. I haven't even cleaned or bought groceries yet! I'll get there. My other daughter who lives across the way, usually is kind enough to help out!

What an amazing time we had Saturday in Birmingham!!! This is the second Susan G. Komen Cancer walk I have participated in. It is truly an emotional event. I walked in honor of loved ones who have passed, and yet honored to have walked for the team "We Cheer for Tracy", for a good friend who is a breast cancer survivor. If you have not donated to a cancer research cause, I urge you all to do so soon! October is breast cancer awareness month.

Two of my daughers, one with her boyfriend, and the other with

three of my granchildren, walked on the team!

I may see the danger, fear, and have untrust, but as long as she's with him, she is secure...remind you of another story?

Today Is the First Day Of the Rest of My Life...

Today is the first day of the rest of my life…sounds pretty dramatic, huh? Seriously, everyday is the first day of the rest of our lives! I’ve always loved that quote. Makes one think. Seems like I woke up one morning and realized I may be running out of time. Then again, we are all running out of time, wouldn’t you agree? Lately I have been concerned for what I am and am NOT doing with my life. But I’ve asked myself, “Is God pleased with my life?” “Have I been doing what He wants me to do?” “WHY haven’t I been as successful as I thought I should be?” “WHY am I not the owner of a dress boutique by now?” “And WHY…woops, I forgot, we aren’t supposed to ask WHY…I know He has given me a talent to sew, but it’s not all about me and what I want to do with it. I want to do what God wants me to do with it. HIS will. For now, I feel confused because I haven’t had this mind set, yet at the same time I feel at peace because I know I’m on the way to finding out. We are to be servants down here and I need to serve. Too many times I pray, “God help me be successful at this, help me to be more creative, help me make more money, help me….ME…I had to get ME out of the way when I prayed. So, I prayed about what HE wanted ME to do. I’ve made the decision to enroll in a local junior college to study the aging. After all, I’ll be there soon enough, and I have aging parents and in-laws. I designed our new house to accommodate our parents one day if need be. So, it just makes sense. I know this is one way of serving the Lord. And after all, learning helps stimulate the brain, keep me from being bored and depressed, get me out of the house, be more prepared for the future, and lots of other stuff too! I’m excited! I need a change in my life. People will probably say I’m just empty nesting, and lonesome...and I am, but I have a need to move forward and not get stagnate. I apologize to those of you who expect me to be sewing all the time, but for now I’m tired and not creative or motivated. My sewing studio is not completed in our new house either, and it may be a while before it is. Maybe this is all God’s timing, and maybe, just maybe He wants me to use the talents He’s given me in a different way. Whatever course I’m about to embark, I am ready to embrace!

Last week, my house was filled with some spirited cheerleaders! ALL 17 came over to get ready for the home game. Lots easier to feed them in one place and have them get ready to be at the school on time!

There were cheerleaders scattered everywhere! Eating, drinking, cheering, texting, putting on makeup...etc....busy busy! They had two special guests today...two of my granddaughters, who thought they were "it", being among the varsity cheerleaders!

They loved watching their Aunt (who is captain...or have I mentioned that way too much here lately? LOL!) put on the other cheerleaders make up and all the girly stuff that day! After the girls left, guess where these two went? (Mom brought their makeup over)

And at last, ready for the game!!!

I have charged my youngest daughter, with "Always being an example to young girls in school who watch her life. What they see may have an impact on how they act. Always be a leader in Christ. Be a witness."

I was on my way to work, in a city near the Birmingham Airport. I was afraid. I had just dropped my little girl off to school. I wanted to go back and get her after I learned the scope of this tragedy. I felt we had come to a time where we were going to be attacked all over the United States. I will NEVER forget. God help those families who are still struggling with the trauma of that day.

What do you do during a torrential rain from tropical storm Lee? Build a shooting house! Yes, that's the guys building a shooting house for this year's hunting season in Sweet Home Alabama. It has rained since last night and still raining as I write this evening. They began this project in the basement and had a blast. We even rolled the grill on the front porch and had hamburgers and hot dogs too! We didn't miss a Labor Day celebration!

17 Cheerleaders...2 Gazing Granddaughters

Homegames during football season = my house for hosting pre-game dinner, rest (yah, right), and hair and makeup, before game time...with 17 cheerleaders! Yesterday my middle daughter went with me grocery shopping for this event, then back home to cook. I invited her back over later so my granddaughters could meet the cheerleaders and hang out with their aunt (who is captain, by the way...and you know I've mentioned that a few times, huh? lol!) They are 8, 7, and my grandson is 6. However, my grandson could have cared less about these highschool girls (for now, anyway!). He just played with his magnetic "Thomas" trains and the fishing game on his mom's cell phone. The girls were in heaven with all these cheerleaders. And I will let the pictures speak for themselves!

Tuesday's Sewing Tip

It's been a while since posting a "Tuesday's Sewing Tip", but because I've got the sewing machine humming again, I thought today would be the day!

I've talked a lot about hems and rolled hems, and today it's about...you guessed it! Rolled hems!

Actually, it's not about the hemming technique as much as a problem that can occur when sewing over a seam using your rolled hem attachment. Your narrow rolled hem attachment turns up approximately 1/4" fabric, so I prepare seams by trimming away that much from the edge,

then using a little fraycheck to help stabilize and prevent unraveling, before beginning the process.

Also try setting the stitch length closer together toward the end of the seam, so it won't pull apart as easy while going through the hemmer.

Seems like I've been talking alot here lately about my baby girl. Don't mean to make more over her than I would the rest of my kids. However, as I've said before, she's the last one to graduate school, AND the last kid at home! She has been a joy to me and I believe God sent her to me in a time in my life when I needed it. I thank Him for that, and I pray I have many more years of joy with this daughter, my other two, my son, and my five grandchildren. This is where I see the fingerprints of God...in His timing...His ability to see the future...and His love and mercy for me!

First Day for the Last Time!

Why does Monday seem to come around so fast? I love Mondays. And today marks the first day of some changes for me: Eat healthier (again), begin some kind of exercise regime (again), and start sewing (AGAIN). I have much to do over the next few days, including praying for our Church's upcoming Revival Services next week. I know when a declaration is made for changes, hindrances are bound to interfere. I realize this, and hopefully I can avoid most, but it's time for me. Time to begin. I'm praying for wisdom, courage, energy, strength,and creativity.

It's that time of year again when we send our children away from us for around 7 hours a day in someone else's care. I don't even like the sound of that. This is a time we desperately need to be praying for the leaders in our schools. This is my daughter's last year of high school. I may be saddened by that fact, but at the same time slightly relieved. However, then it's on to college, marriage, and...well let's just say we need to hang on to our children and protect them as best as we can while we have the privilege of time.

Blueberry Pie...Southern Style

"I found my thrill, on blueberry hill"...sorry, I couldn't resist. Yes, today is about blueberry pie. And since I'm from the South, I can say it's "Southern Style", right? Hope you enjoy! And I hope yours turns out prettier than mine! If it does, please send me a photo!

Gather your ingredients!

1/2 Cup Flour

1 Cup Sugar

Dash of Cinnamon

Lemon

2 Deep Dish Pie Crusts

Enough Blueberries to fill a deep dish pie crust

(about a gallon size freezer bag)

Hint: I freeze blueberries immediately after picking, without washing. This way they don't stick to each other. As I need them I measure then wash. Sounds gross, but that's the way we do it here in the South!

1. Wash and drain blueberries

2. Mix together dry ingredients

3. Prepare pie crusts with a few dollops of butter then

place onto baking sheet.

Trust me, do NOT omit this step!

4. Fill pie crust half full with blueberries,

then squeeze a little lemon juice on top

5. Spoon half of dry mixture evenly on top of blueberries

6. Layer more blueberries on top, sprinkling again with a few lemon drops,

(about as many berries as you think your other pie crust will cover)

7. Spread remaining dry mixture evenly over this layer,

then add a few dollops butter on top

8. Place the other pie crust on top of layered berries

Hint: If your crust will not release from the pan while frozen,

wait until it thaws then try to work away with a knife-GOOD LUCK!

OK, so mind didn't! But you know what? Life happens!

And I went to a lot of trouble taking photos of the process

so I'm gonna FINISH WHAT I STARTED!

9. Don't forget to score the pie crust to vent!

And if this doesn't taste good, I may NEED to vent!

Place in oven (still on baking sheet) on 300

(may need to adjust slightly up or down)

for about an hour and a half.

HINT: Make sure your crust can reach the bottom crust

and you can pinch together to seal

After this pie came out of the oven, I didn't even WANT to take pics!

It looked horrible, had boiled over onto the baking sheet, part of the crust fell off, and I felt like crying because I wanted it to look pretty for you! But it didn't! My daughter and I scraped what fell to the side in a bowl and devoured it with vanilla ice cream while it was hot! I was going to take a photo last night with one of our dinner guests eating a slice, but again NO...the pie disappeared!

I can honestly say, it was SCRUMDILIUMPIOUS!!!

WARNING: You must use a baking sheet underneath, and make sure the pie crust is pinched together and the top vented before baking. This recipe has a tendency to boil over sometimes. This is why you want to cook it slow and keep a good check on it. Don't allow the crust to become brown before one hour.

NOTE: I started out baking at a temp of 275 and after an hour, increased to 300 for about another hour.

HINT: Serve warm with vanilla ice cream! And if it falls apart, call it blueberry cobbler! I may bake another and if it turns out pretty, I'll be sure and take a picture!

Fantabulous Friday Find...

If you've never heard of the "Pioneer Woman", you should definitely find out who she is. I have been blogging, tweeting, even facebook fanning and TV viewing Ree Drummond. She is a woman after my own heart. Even though I better relate to sewing rather than cooking, her story and mine are very similar. We don't have cows anymore, but we do have the rolling pastures. It took me nearly 30 years to discover what she did much earlier in her life than me. And I have lived here that long! I'm just thankful to have finally discovered it!

As a girl growing up only 3 blocks from the Birmingham International Airport (It wasn't international then, but I do remember when they landed the first Boeing 747!), I too, was a city girl. In fact, my generation of friends were the first to have invented "call waiting". You see, in my neighborhood, when a plane flew over while you were on the phone, everyone heard it. It was oh so common to say, "hold on a minute"...And of course you both waited until it passed. Yes, I was city girl who married a cowboy (he didn't wrangle cows, but he showed horses and helped his granddad with his cows!). He lived next door to a boyfriend I was dating, who had migrated to the country our senior year of high school. While visiting this boyfriend one day, and unafraid and too refined to go down to the creek with our other friends who were also visiting, I stayed behind. Bored and alone there, I answered a knock from that boy next door! Yes, it sounds corny, but I believe him when he tells me it was "love at first sight"! Two years later we were married. Oh, and the ex-boyfriend? He lives across the pasture and our kids grew up together!

My husband has since replaced his cowboy boots and hat with steel-toed boots and a welder's hood. We hope to have cows again some day, but until then we'll enjoy this beautiful piece of God's green earth we call home. I can relate to The Pioneer Woman's story in such a way that makes me appreciate as well, where I'm at in life today. It's not been a bed of roses nor a fairy-tale yellow brick road to follow, but I have arrived it seems, and wouldn't trade it for the world. I suggest you follow The Pioneer Woman's blog, or purchase one of her books. I think you'll enjoy reading about her and trying some of her recipes!

Yes, this cup may be plain, but the liquid inspiration inside is what counts, right? AND, especially when you're having coffee on a balcony overlooking the ocean...

No, I'm not there. But I was a couple of months ago and I wish I was there again!

I love the ocean, perhaps it's the "Pisces" sign I was born under? Not sure I believe in all that, but it is interesting to read about the different zodiac personalities, and coincidentally mine does fit the description...but well, you know, that's all hooey, right? OK, I have to admit, I'm scattered this morning and not offering you much inspiration, because I'm trying to find my own, still in hopes of rekindling my creative spirit. I'll get there. And that's why I chose to dream of the ocean this morning! Now I'm off to sit on my front porch with a cup of "Dunkin Donuts" coffee. I'm going to shut my eyes and pretend I'm...oh yah, I can hear the waves now...seagulls above me...tasting the salty air...feeling the ocean breeze...Gerard Butler just waved at me...

Friday Finds...Coffee?

I recently stopped drinking Folgers Coffee (after 20 years!) because a friend of mine introduced me to another brand, Eight O'Clock Coffee. And because the store I shopped at yesterday did not have my current brand, I'm trying yet another. I will let you all know if my new find will pass the taste test!
Is it sad that all I can write about today is coffee? However, I am excited it's Friday! But if I don't sew soon though, I'll be talking about bathroom tissue or something like that next! Stay tuned to the Friday Finds of this new coffee transition (spoken in my soap opera saga voice-hey! SOAP! that might be another good one!-OK, I've gotta stop!) Have a great weekend all!

I think about this excerpt from Max Lucado's little book, "Grace For The Moment" (and that passage from his book, "The Great House of God"), and I hold on to those words of inspiration and wisdom as I try and get through my summer of transition.
Lately I haven't been able to do the thing that moves me, and that is to sew. As I've mentioned before a few posts back, we've been moving to a new house, now helping my daughter move into our old, and our nephew move into her old trailer. Lots of work and transitioning going on around here. Not to mention, my cheerdaughter needs lots of attention this summer too. My sewing studio has been put on hold, and I've had to work out of a makeshift sewing room. I'm not complaining, but it does get a little frustrating not being able to go in and sew the way I'm used to. I've decided to take the whole summer off. It feels kind of strange doing this. I feel like I'm letting my customers down and myself as well. However, after much pondering, and yes, if I have to admit, a little self pity, I've had to reassure myself I'm human and sometimes "life happens". Surely, with this fire inside me, it will not burn out before I can resume my sewing full time once again.

I love Sunday mornings sitting on the front porch drinking coffee, meditating, praying, thinking...Admiring God's creation, listening to the birds, watching my little dog sleep in the sun, seeing my son drive by on his way to church early. Yes, especially seeing that! That's important to me...knowing he gave his life to God, is dedicated,

and serves in our church, makes a moma proud!

Eating Fruits...a MUST for Cancer Patients? (long post)

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.
In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining — every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc — actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes, all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene — the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

Don’t Drink Cold water after a meal.Can u believe this?? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE: (THIS IS NOT A JOKE!) Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive.

It's Monday Again...I Have a LOT to be THANKFUL for...

As I wake up this Monday morning I look around trying to decide what to do, and as I mull it over with my favorite coffee cup in hand, still in my pjs, comfortable, already having had breakfast...I realize, it's been two months now since the devastating tornadoes in Alabama. Two whole months yet so many people's lives, scarred forever, are still trying to piece together even a small thread of what some feel are their end. My prayers go out to these survivors. I can only watch from TV, news articles, and a few personal stories of this tragedy to try and get an idea of the loss. I can NOT fathom nor comprehend such devastation. As I was leaving Tuscaloosa last week I felt guilty for taking pictures, as if I was taking obscenities to share with the rest of the world. I don't even feel right posting the pictures, it was such a deep and emotional experience to have seen what was only 50% of the clean up. I will share with you one that most of you can relate to, and that is one of a Hobby Lobby destroyed. Think of the lives that loosing a store like that can affect. It would mine. Keep Alabama and the other states as well, in your prayers and help out if you can. It will be years before some will gain normalcy. I love you Alabama, and you're in my prayers.

Cheer Camp 2011 & Empty Nest Syndrome

I'm getting closer to that "Empty Nest Syndrome", I can feel it. Just in the little things does this little "ENS" emotion surface, and right when I don't expect it! Any moms out there feel the way I do? I have 3 older children (age 30, 28, and 24), besides my 17 year old, and 5 grand children! I didn't think I could ever experience these kind of feelings! My baby is a Senior this year, and I hope I can keep it together!
I wasn't able to take my cheerdaughter to camp this year because my hubby was in the hospital with pneumonia. I cried. And when I saw a video of the pom routine on facebook she created, I cried. My baby is growing up. Am I the only one who has a baby, 17? I need to quit now before I cry...again...

Please Help My Friend's Daughter Go to College!

Today I want to share a blog post from a friend of mine. I've often mentioned my youngest daughter here on the blog and you all have been so sweet to comment about her extra curricular activities I've written about! I am now beginning to find out first hand how expensive these activities are, let alone preparing for college! Especially college! My two older daughters and one son never attended college. (Although one of my daughters just enrolled full time after being out of highschool for 10 yrs!) They married and are currently raising a family, except for my son...he's still looking! Well, not the case with my youngest, who is in to everything! Cheerleading, Competitive Cheer, National Honor Society, Community Service, Beauty Pageants, Early College Courses, Swimming, Church, ...In fact, she would rather be home on a Saturday night than going out. She'll tell you she doesn't have time!
This young lady reminds me of my youngest daugther, and I want to help her out, because I may need the same help next year!!!

Guess what!...I have internet!!! For now it's a trial run and I will make my decision by tomorrow night whether or not I want to keep this particular service. I can't believe while waiting on my new wireless router to arrive, my previous phone company decided they may be able to restore my service. OK, well you may be a little too late!

Still Sweet Home Alabama

Hi bloggers and bloggettes! It was May 2nd the last entry made on this blog. Today is May 24th, and I still have no phone service. It's a long, and I mean VERY long story to try and explain what I've been through with the phone company. Lesson learned: When transferring phone service, don't assume your internet transfers with it! Bottom line: I refuse a land line unless internet comes with it! Solution: There seems to be none. Internet was capped when they turned my service off to move it. Explain that one to me!
I am still sitting in my window after 37 days with no land line borrowing wi-fi (when it picks up!)from my sister in law. We've just moved into our new house and I have a lovely office to conduct business in. However, it's a little inconvenient without my laptop! I was hoping to have already had many blog posts showing off the new home and the transition from old to new. Guess not. I'm really not complaining, but I am seeking other internet services now. Hopefully by next week, I'll be good to go again! Would you believe I've not made any little girls dresses either? That's another story! Please don't forget about me! I'm still in Sweet Home Alabama!
